Art Openings and Music Shows Make the Venice Weekend

The final weekend in August is here already! School is starting up again, but summer's hardly over. Temps will remain in the mid- to upper-70s on the beach, but it will be much hotter inland, so look for crowds on the boardwalk.

On Friday evening, head over to (respondez to events@theg2gallery.com, s'il-vous plait) for the opening reception of Saving Cranes, by photographer Mike Sloat. A $5 donation at the door goes to support the International Crane Foundation.

Don't forget, if you missed last week's one-year anniversary edition of the , you can still stop by the MOMENTUM installation at 85 Market St. through 6:30 Friday night.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., SLOLA, the Seed Library of Los Angeles, opens at the Learning Garden at Venice High. From SLOLA's website:

Gebert Gallery is hosting the opening reception for John Randall Nelson's new show, "," Saturday evening at 6 p.m. The event is free, and the gallery always has interesting exhibits – this one promises to be no different.

Got an extra bicycle hanging around, or is it time for a new one? Whole Foods Venice is hosting on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Alaffia, a group that provides bicycles to secondary school-aged girls in Togo, so that they can continue their education.

Over at Uncle Darrow's, there will be music Sunday afternoon at 2. Flight 2DA Light will perform, free, in the back patio area as part of the cajun restaurant's .
