First Friday and an Epic Presentation

The weekend kicks off with First Friday on Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

The first weekend in November will be a little more seasonal than this week's heat wave but is still predicted to be mostly clear and in the mid-60s.

As always, there is plenty to keep you busy in Venice this weekend. Here are some suggestions...

First Friday!! Food (trucks), fashion, fun, etc, etc. Abbot Kinney goes wild. If you head over there, make sure you check out 's reception for Tom Wright's " which is a cool look at our urban space. Also look for the Detox Space pop-up store at 1524 Abbot Kinney, and their eco-friendly, boutique items. I would consider this to be early holiday shopping, but I think my mom is already done with hers, so... perspective. If you haven't started yet, you might want to.

On the other hand, if First Fridays aren't your style, the First Lutheran Church is continuing to host an alternative: First Friday Gospel Celebration with Scott Cross. So, there's that.

Just a reminder: Venice High gets its . Kick-off is at Hamilton High at 3 p.m.

Saturday

Did you know that the founder of In-N-Out Burger, Gary Snyder, went to Venice High? Well, he did, and he will be honored Saturday night, along with Venice High supporter, parent and alumnus, Sylvia (Agatep) Villaseñor and teacher Gary George, at the . Tickets are $39.50, and include dinner, a DJ and an opportunity to bid on silent auction items, including a custom surfboard from Jeff Ho.

Venice Arts is . Food, wine and, of course, art will be in attendence from 6 - 9 p.m. Tickets (it's a fundraiser) are $150.

is also having a fundraiser, but, in congruence with their offbeat mentality, it starts at 10 a.m. and is merely "donation requested." The event is pretty awesome: Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight, more than 100 poets will read. I think you could call this an "epic marathon."

Sunday

There will be more Homeric events at from noon - 6 p.m., including music, discussion and party.

is offering $5 (well, $4.99, but who's counting) mimosas, kir royales, and bilinis every Sunday this month starting at 11 a.m.! If you have to go grocery shopping anyway, treating yourself to a "bubbly brunch," as they're calling it, doesn't sound half bad.

Have a great weekend, all!
