Mar Vista TV Writer Wins Big at the WGA Awards
Life imitates art for TV writer Brad Walsh, who keeps it all in the "Modern Family"
Mar Vista resident Brad Walsh is a writer and co-executive producer of ABC's Modern Family and last night he won big when the show took home the award for Best Television Comedy Series at the Writers Guild of America Awards.
Walsh and writing partner, Paul Corrigan, were also nominated for a WGA Award for their episode: "Earthquake." (Robert Carlock's episode of NBC's 30 Rock, “When It Rains, It Pours,” won for best comedy episode.) Prior to Modern Family, Walsh and Corrigan worked on Fox's King of the Hill for three years.
"It's very exciting," Walsh told Patch. "Paul, and I are thrilled to be associated with such a great show."
Walsh lives in Mar Vista with his wife, Rachel, and sons, Oscar, 8, and Martin, 4. The Walsh family likes being part of the Mar Vista community, and enjoys watching it grow. "I love what's happening with downtown," Walsh said. "I think it's coming into its own."
And Walsh admits that he's definitely found material in Mar Vista for the half hour sitcom that takes a satirical look at family life in the 21st century. "We just went to a play that my son Oscar was in at Mar Vista Elementary School. At the same time we were making an episode about a school play. The two could not have mirrored each other more."
Unfortunately Walsh didn't offer any more details. The episode will be aired later this season.
Modern Family was created by Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, and is written by Levitan, Lloyd, Walsh, Corrigan, Jerry Collins, Alex Herschlag, Abraham Higginbotham, Elaine Ko, Joe Lawson, Dan O'Shannon, Jeffrey Richman, Ilana Wernick, Bill Wrubel and Danny Zuker.
The WGA Awards ceremony took place simultaneously in New York and Los Angeles at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood. Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet hosted the LA ceremony.
