Today in Venice-Mar Vista: Free Drawing Event, Fall Fest, Ballona Wetlands Tour, Windward Circle Clean-Up, Mar Vista Book Sale

Nature, conservation efforts, drawing for fun, the Mar Vista Fall Festival and a book sale all happen this weekend in Venice-Mar Vista.

Here are five things for your Friday and beyond in Venice-Mar Vista:  


  1. "Drawing by the Mile: A Family Drawing Event at Animo Venice Charter HS" is set for Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The free activity is meant "to inspire all ages in our eclectic community with the power of creating," according to the website. Rolls of drawing paper will line the campus "as families and our student mentors come together to build bridges." Reservations are suggested by phone at (310) 392-8751 or email sent to stephanie.lowe@animo.org. The school is at 820 Broadway St. "The Big Draw LA, presented by Ryman Arts, creates opportunities for people of all ages to discover that drawing can help us see, think and invent."
  2. The Mar Vista Fall Festival takes place this Saturday at the Mar Vista Recreation Center, 11430 Woodbine St., from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The theme for the Oct. 19 event is “Celebrating the Arts." More details here.
  3. On Saturday, the Mar Vista Branch Library's Friends of the Library Book Sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 12006 Venice Blvd. 
  4. The Venice Neighborhood Council's Environmental Committee invites all to join a tour of the Ballona Wetlands Sunday at 9 a.m. Participants will meet behind Gordon's Market at 303 Culver Blvd., Playa del Rey. Dr. Margo Griswold of The LA Audobon Society will lead the group. 
  5. Join the VNC's Environmental Committee Sunday at 12 noon when they pickup trash on and around Windward Circle. Participants will meet at the gondola. Trash gloves and bags will be provided.
