Local Girl Scouts host Raingutter Regatta and Cookie-Kick-Off

The Girl Scout of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA), Marina Service Unit held a Raingutter Regatta and Cookie Kick-Off Event on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Mark Twain Middle School.

The Raingutter Regatta is a racing event known for being a Cub Scout Activity, but move over boys, the girls are moving in.  Girls were given a Trimaran kit that they put together with their troop or parent.  They then competed against girls in their own level by blowing air through a straw to advance their boat.

For the Brownie (2nd-3rd grades) level: Elva Kubiak Loomis from Troop 5305 placed 3rd, Eliana Bobrow from Troop 15605 placed 2nd, and Dillon Grace Raymond from Troop 16545 placed 1st.

For the Cadette (6th-8th grades) level: Katie Milligan from Troop 3415 placed 3rd, Lena Moores from Troop 6545 placed 2nd, and Nina Gazzo from Troop 3415 placed 1st.

The event even held a parents race.  Don Engel from Troop 1581 placed 3rd, Blue Sandefur from Troop 5415 placed 2nd, and Andy Bobrow from Troop 15605 placed 1st.  It is fun to watch the girls race, but it is really fun to watch the parents compete.

This event also held as the kick-off to Girl Scout Cookie Season. Troop 5305 put together a great Cookie Kick-Off.  It included fun activities for the girls to do, including how to sell cookies safely, learning about the difference cookie types and prices, how to set goals, how to set up a cookie booth and more.  They even had a cute photo op area that included a vintage book about Juliette Low.  Girl Scout Cookie pre-sales begin Friday, January 24th.
