Artists Are the Rock Stars at Venice Art Crawl

This week's events include free movies, music and story time at the library, plus the monthly art crawl.

This will be a well-rounded week of  cultural events in Venice for all ages! The big event is the Venice Art Crawl, which has grown fast since August of last year with new eclectic venues popping up every month. The Venice Library has much to offer in spite of the cuts to its budget, with kids story time, movies and performances at night plus free Wi-Fi and computer stations.

Starting with the there are events offered Tuesday through Thursday this week. Tuesday brings a music performance at 6:30 p.m. of Bach to Blues and Beyond with Charlie Gould.

It's Toddler Story Time on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. for newborns to 3-year-olds with stories, music, laughs and more. Every Thursday evening is movie night, starting at 5 p.m. Each month has a different theme. Due to licensing restrictions, the library can't post upcoming film titles, but you can call the library during open hours at 310-821-1769 to find out the next movie. Did you know that you can also reserve a computer at the library in advance online with your library card? See this page to make your reservation.

The is Thursday. See the photos on the right from the last Art Crawl at the old Gas Station across from the  which also has quite a scene happening outdoors and on the fifth floor, known as Larry's Lounge after Venice artist Larry Bell. The Gas Station on 100 Venice Way has been given a much-needed face-lift and was crowded last month with talented artists, some of them painting live, and a big crowd of appreciative art fans. Another new venue, Dogtown at 812 Ocean Front Walk (enter through the alley behind it), was a total art extravaganza!

A group photo show at 1320 Main St. is also a new addition to the Art Crawl this month, with photos by David Zentz, Christo Brock and Martin Linss.

The best thing to do is see the Venice Art Crawl website and download the map, which is usually available the day of the event and confirms most of the locations, and check back with us on Thursday for the "must see" events!
