Celebrate Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday

Honor the musician's big day and check out some other events in Venice this week.

Did you know Tuesday is Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday? Celebrate it at The Talking Stick with "Forever Young: Bob Dylan's Folk Years: 1961-1964," a concert of his early songs. The night will be hosted by Ross Altman, and Carolyn Hester and her daughters, Karla and Amy Blume, Len Chandler, Andy Manoff and Daddy Bone will perform, along with others. $10 admission. 7 -10 p.m.

Better than karaoke, it's Open Mic Night at The Talking Stick on Wednesday. Signup is at 6:30 p.m. The evening is hosted by Byron and Tom and goes from 7-10 p.m. Free.

Also on Wednesday, The Rachel Sorsa Khoury Band will bring some sweet jazz to the beach, singing standards, bossa nova and blues at  Danny's from 7 -10 p.m.  Arrive early to take advantage of  drink specials  and select appetizers from 4-7 p.m.

The last Thursday of the month at Canal Club brings the hottest and funniest comics on the Westside. Hosted by Kente Scott (BET, Comedy Central, Laugh Factory, Antwone Fischer) featuring Tony Milazzo, headliner Julio Gonzalez (Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, Improv Comedy Central, Laugh Factory) and more, including Venice's own Kristi McHugh.  Free before 8 p.m. with RSVP to paparazzicomedy@yahoo.com, $5 cover after 8 p.m. The show runs 8-10 p.m.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.

Thank you, David, for your lucid and edifying dissertation on Passover. You just about said itRead More all...I would only add that if people get a chance during the holiday to view the movie version of Fiddler On The Roof they will get a truly inspiring feeling for what it meant - and means - to be Jewish.
