Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Catch some bluegrass music on Friday, R&B covers on Saturday and then check out some trash-turned-art on Sunday.

Why Go: Hear a true family band - including 14-year-old Sara on the fiddle and 18-year-old Kyle on the mandolin and fiddle play great bluegrass music with their parents.  Along with their own compositions the band also performs works from  from artists including Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and The Stanley Brothers.

Pricing: Admission $5. All fees go to environmental charities.

Why Go: reDiscover promotes creativity in early childhood and elementary education while encouraging environmental responsibility. Bring your kids and teach them how to create great art from recycled materials.

Why Go: Put on your dancing shoes and dance along to the band's solid rock grooves, R&B, Soul, Jazz and Funk music.

Why Go: See Mar Vista artist Marina DeBris's latest work and learn how to reuse your disposable goods and reduce waste. DeBris has been picking up trash along Westside beaches and creeks for over a dozen years and regularly lends her artistic talents to Heal the Bay, Friends of Ballona Wetlands, 5 Gyres and other environmental organizations.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.
