Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

The Master Gardeners return, head to Fiesta La Ballona and donate your used bicycle.

Still have no idea what to do this weekend? Don't panic. Mar Vista Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks:

Where/When: , 11666 National Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064. Sat. Aug, 27. 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why Go: The Waffle Lady will be on site at 9:30 a.m. for a pancake breakfast to benefit the Gardens for Kids project. The breakfast includes two hot pancakes and a side of fruit for only $5. All proceeds will benefit the Garden Grant Project.

Pricing: Free entrance.

Where/When: , 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City, CA 90230. Sat. Aug. 27 and Sun. Aug 28. 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Why Go: Come out and celebrate Fiesta La Ballona! Browse through the booths, taste the food, hang out in the beer garden, listen to the bands, watch the presentations, go on the carnival rides, and have some fun!

Pricing:  Free entrance.

Where/When:  , 3826 Grand View Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066. Sun. Aug. 28. 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Why Go: The end of summer means the start of your fall and winter garden. The UCCE/LA County Master Gardeners will be at the market with plenty of seasonal veggie seedlings, including bush beans, lettuces, kale and much more. Also, they will have tips on fall/winter basic gardening and what to plant from a seed in September and October. 

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: , 1401 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, CA 90291 (Meet in front). Sun. Aug. 28 (and every Sunday) at 8 a.m.

Why Go: Do your part to help save the planet by joining others to clean Venice Beach for an hour. Gloves and bags are supplied for participants. Anyone who wants to participate must RSVP prior to emailingelisha@getwaxedvenice.com or by calling 310-396-2929, so that enough gloves and bags are brought for the day.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: , 225 Lincoln Blvd, Venice, CA 90291. Sat. Aug. 27 & Sun. Aug. 28. 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Why Go: Help others get around by giving away your old bicycle. Whole Foods Market is partnering with Alaffia Sustainable Skin Care for a Bicycle Donation Drive to support and encourage secondary school-aged youth in Togo's remote rural areas to continue their education by supplying qualifying individuals with a bicycle, helmet, training session on basic bicycle maintenance and safety. Alaffia will distribute your donation of a functioning adult-sized used bicycle to disadvantaged girls in rural Togo for the 2011- 2012 school year.
