God’s Green Earth Festival Brings A Spiritual Side To Environmentalism in Venice

Progressive Christians aim to unify the community with a message of conservation and God's love.

Event co-producers Troi Geborde and Dora Guerra combined their love of God, entertainment and environmental awareness for God’s Green Earth Festival this past Friday and Saturday at Windward Plaza in Venice.

“Secular and faith-based people share a common ground when it comes to having compassion about the environment,” said Guerra. “Our vision was to bring environmentalism and the love of God to the mainstream.”

TGE productions, Geborde’s Burbank-based events and multimedia company, funded the family-friendly event that included professional skaters, live entertainment, green vendors and organizations and guest speakers.

“We’re stewards of this earth by God who was provided all of this for us,” said Geborde. “We want to do this for His sake. I haven’t been to another festival that’s been able to spread this message quite like we are.“

Environmental organizations such as The Sierra Club and Food and Water Watch helped to further the festival’s mission. Food was provided by Whole Foods and leftovers were given to homeless people on the Venice Boardwalk, said Guerra.

“We’ve lost so many unifying values,” he said.  “We’re all chasing something on our own. This festival serves as a reminder that we’re all in this together.”

Identifying as progressive Christians, GeBorde’s company isn’t affiliated with a formal church. He’s also founded a collective of various artists including DJs and fire dancers known as Spirit's Fire Gatherings. According to the organization's website, their goal is to enjoy a peaceful, family friendly gathering of people and combine arts and entertainment.
