Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board Responds to Venice Boardwalk Tragedy

"Our hearts go out to all who were touched by this tragic incident."

In the wake of last Saturday’s deadly hit-and-run rampage, Patch reached out to the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board to ask about the possible impact of tourism on the area.

The following statement was written by Susan Lomax, vice president of communications for the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board:

First, our hearts go out to all who were touched by this past weekend’s tragic incident.  L.A.’s top priority is always for the safety of our visitors and residents and Angelenos have a real sense of pride about their city.  So when something like this happens, it is definitely felt throughout the entire LA community.

Any time an unfortunate incident happens in any destination in the world, it has the potential to negatively impact visitation.  We’re fortunate in LA to have a community that understands this and that takes action to keep safety – of visitors and residents – a top priority.

Fortunately for LA, there is so much positive worldwide news that drives great demand for the LA experience– from celebrity activities to the new movies, TV shows and music created here to the growing arts and culture scene.   It’s what makes LA one of the best-known destinations in the world and one of the most-visited destinations in the country.

We’re really focused on telling this story about LA and showcasing all that LA has to offer.

LA’s crime rates have dropped for the last 10 years, making LA the safest big city in America.  LA is safer today than it’s been since the early 1950s.
