Open Houses for May 14 and 15

Here's a new batch of Venice homes to consider.

Memorial Day weekend will be here before you know it, the unofficial start of vacation season. One of the best things about living in Venice is that we’re so close to the beach that most of us can have the effect of a vacation after a 10-minute walk, bike or drive. If you're looking to live here,  check out these two homes for sale and two apartments to rent. House Hunt also gives you the hours for the scheduled open houses. You can always contact the agents to arrange another time to drop by:

For sale: 513 Grand Blvd. The real estate agent says: This dynamic urban intervention is a rare private residence by Viennese architects Coop Himmelblau and the first project built by the Austrian team in the United States. It’s steps to Abbot Kinney and the beach. Here, the architects explode the constraints of functionalism into a thousand pieces, in the process creating a complex sculptural form interwoven with the apparatus of living. An impeccable Bulthaup kitchen and the finest European fixtures and appliances set an uncompromising standard of elegance inside, disguised by the raw drama of the exterior. The expressive use of concrete, glass and structural steel is tempered by an open plan with direct connections to the landscape, natural wood ceilings, the play of daylight and cool ocean breezes. At the top, a generous roof deck commands a panoramic 360-degree view from the Getty Center to the Hollywood sign and mountains beyond downtown. This is in a private, gated compound with three bedrooms and three and a half baths in 2,522 square feet. Asking $2,595,000 Open house Sunday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  www.deasypenner.com

Enter through a vibrant organic herb and vegetable garden surrounded by mature wisteria, plumeria, lemon and avocado trees. This charming home combines Eastern and Western sensibilities seamlessly. Details include custom cabinets, bamboo floors and exposed wood beams. It includes a newly added studio apartment with a three-quarter bath and a newly enclosed front patio with French doors. There’s a rear redwood deck with an outdoor shower. The kitchen features concrete counters with stainless steel appliances creating a modern yet comfortable space. A sleeper loft adds functionality to one of the downstairs bedrooms. The light-filled master suite has vaulted ceilings, large skylight and treetop views. It features a two-car garage. Asking $1,295,000. Open house Sunday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. www.sothebysrealty.com
