Politics Galore in Venice, Plus Intentional Comedy

Look no further for things to do this week.

As always, there are lots of things going on in Venice this week. For one, our local neighborhood council is taking the lead in bringing our future congressperson to the district. If you want to know the person who will represent you this year, check out the VNC's forum on Wednesday. For more community activities, read on.

Tuesday: Bioneers meeting at . Bioneers are biological pioneers who work with nature to heal nature and ourselves and who are dedicated to re-imagining the future of our planet.  Bioneers foster connection, cross-pollination, and collaboration by bringing together diverse people and projects within a broadly progressive framework. This meeting is free and open to the public. 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. 1503 Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Tuesday: The Venice Neighborhood Council (VNC) is holding their monthly board meeting. There will be a presentation about the Vera Davis Youth and Family Center's management, funding and programs. Plus, there will be a presentation from the US Post Office with a proposal to move operations from the beautiful post office building on Windward Circle to the post office annex building on Grand Boulevard. There are plans to give historic status to the Post Office if it's sold, but it would be a shame for Venice to lose this historic gem with the wonderful Abbot Kinney mural. The event is free and open to all. 7 p.m. Westminster Elementary School Auditorium, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. (enter from Westminster)

Wednesday: The VNC joins forces with the Mar Vista Community Council for a candidates' forum for the special election to replace Jane Harman's seat in the 36th Congressional District. There are at least 18 in the running for this election including Debra Bowen, Janice Hahn, and Marcy Winograd. The election is on May 17. The event is free and open to all. Post your questions in advance via email.
6:30 p.m. Westminster Elementary School Auditorium, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. (enter from Westminster)

Thursday: Last Thursday Comedy Night at Canal Club with Paparazzi Comedy! Hosted by Kente Scott (BET, Comedy Central, Laugh Factory, Antwone Fischer) featuring Lou Santini, headlining Perry Kurtz (Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, Improv Comedy Central, Laugh Factory, writer for the Tonight Show). Happy hour drink and food specials during show. Produced by Gisele, Host Kente Scott. Recommended for 21 and over. Free before 8pm, $5 cover after 8pm.  2025 Pacific Av. Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.

Thank you, David, for your lucid and edifying dissertation on Passover. You just about said itRead More all...I would only add that if people get a chance during the holiday to view the movie version of Fiddler On The Roof they will get a truly inspiring feeling for what it meant - and means - to be Jewish.
