Power Outage in Venice Inconveniences Area Residents

The outage may have been weather related.

A second power outage occurred in Venice today disrupting electricity in the area for about seven hours.

Mary Fern, who lives near the intersection of Biona Drive and Corinth Avenue, had major concerns after her power went off around 4 a.m.

"After so many hours with it off, we started to worry about the food in the refrigerator and freezer," Fern said.

Carol Tucker, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, said outages in the area today were "mostly likely weather related."

"When a rain situation like this occurs, crews are doing ongoing repairs," Tucker said.

About 600 customers in the Venice Boulevard area were impacted by the outage, according to Tucker.

"I didn't get to have my coffee this morning which was a bummer, but at least I had hot water in the hot water heater, thank goodness," Fern said. "Other than that, I didn't want to lose hundreds of dollars in food."

Fern said the power was restored around midday.
