This Sat. June 1 from 2 - 5p.m., Los Angeles residents and leading Venice organizations will stage a really to preserve the public's free access to Venice Beach.

Hundreds are expected to attend the rally, which will take place on the front lawn of Venice's Beyond Baroque Arts Center at 681 Venice Blvd.

Among those in attendance will be The Surfrider Foundation, The Venice Action Alliance, Venice Community Unity Coalition, People United For Westside Renewal (POWER), Venice Community Housing Corporation, The Beyond Baroque Arts Center, SPARC, The Venice Beachhead newspaper, Venice skateboarders, and other leading Venice community groups and activists -- including 10-year former California Coastal Commission Board Member, Sara Wan.

Al those participating have spoken out against new, City of Los Angeles actions including the disputed midnight beach curfew; increasing parking restrictions and parking fees. All the groups believe that these restrictions will hamper the general public's future access to Venice Beach.

The event will also have live music and free food. There will be banners, signs, sign-ups, letter-writing, sign-making and neighborhood canvasing to rally Venice and Los Angeles for a call to action at the upcoming June 13 California Coastal Commission hearing in Long Beach: when the Commission is now further set to approve or deny a proposal to force new, paid-parking street permits, in addition to other recent restrictions, on all residents and future overnight visitors to Venice Beach.
