Report: Mar Vista Has Some of L.A.'s Cheapest Auto Rates

Good news for Mar Vista drivers: A new report ranks Mar Vista as one of the five cheapest zip codes in Los Angeles for car insurance costs.

It costs about $1,450 a year to insure a car in Mar Vista, according to an auto insurance study from ValuePenguin.com, which looked at auto insurance costs across 210 cities, 30 driver profiles and 52 companies to arrive at the average costs and city rankings.

In comparison, the average car insurance cost in LA is approximately $1,600, 44 percent higher than the overall California average, according to the report. This composite number covers a range of costs from $1,908 for single drivers in East Hollywood (69 percent more expensive than the state), to $1,264 for married couples driving in San Pedro (just 17 percent higher).

Lastly, the report ranks Los Angeles the second most expensive city in California; Glendale takes the top spot and Calexico ranks as the cheapest city.
