Update on Endangered Sea Turtle Found on Venice Beach

When found on Venice Beach in January, an olive Ridley turtle, an endangered species, was severely underweight, hypothermic and had buoyancy problems, according to a press release from the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Last Thursday, the healthy seafarer was released into the ocean fitted with a satellite tag to track it. The aquarium will post periodic updates on its travels based on the tag on its website.

Marine Animal Rescue is credited with the sea turtle's rescue in Venice, according to NBC Los Angeles.

The aquarium, which is holds permits for helping stranded sea turtles, was selected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service to provide veterinary care and housing for the rescued animal. The Port of Long Beach and Harbor Breeze Cruises assisted with the release, according to the press release.
