Venice Community Potluck Picnic & Barbecue

The Venice Neighborhood Council's 7th annual free community potluck will take place Sat. Aug. 3 at Oakwood Park.

You know summer’s here when the Venice Neighborhood Council’s annual community free potluck picnic (and barbecue) is around the corner.

This year the event will take place at 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Oakwood Park, 767 California Ave. (at 7th Street).

All your favorite picnic fare will be available including chicken, burgers, hot dogs (veggie too), and pulled pork served up by Venice's own fire fighters from LAFD Station 63, grilled by Capt. Jeremiah Johnson and master grillers Barklie Griggs and Todd von Hoffmann.

New CD 11 Councilmember Mike Bonin will be at the event along with other elected officials as well as musical acts including blues and funk bands with headliners the legendary Bonedaddys.

Residents are asked to please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the many prizes donated by local businesses.

There will also be watermelon-eating contests, a rope pull, and a bouncy house.

Street parking is available but the VNC encourages everyone to walk or ride their bikes to the park.
