Viewfinder: Fourth of July

Our Viewfinder lens focuses on Fourth of July in Venice and the regatta in the canals.

Our Viewfinder photo feature focused its lens on the Fourth of July celebrations in the Venice Canals.

A downwind regatta drew crowds who lined the bridges and walkways as contestants on kayaks, canoes and other wind-powered watercraft raced down a canal and a rubber ducky race turned a portion of the canals into a sea of bobbling bright yellow rubber ducks. The Venice Canals Association held the events and hosted a community party.

The children's division of the downwind regatta kicked off about 1:45 p.m. under a grey overcast that would later burn off and breezy conditions as seen by the blowing flags on a canal bridge.

As always, if you have your own photos to share, please feel free to upload them.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.
