Week in Review: Urban Beekeeping, Polystyrene Ban and Walgrove Charter School

1. The Mar Vista Community Council meeting took up several hot-button issues this week. Blogger Andy Shrader wrote about the panel’s hearing on City Councilman Bill Rosendahl's proposal to house car-dwellers temporarily at the Penmar Golf Course parking lot. Shrader also shared his thoughts on the MVCC's support of a statewide ban on polystyrene.

2. The MVCC also decided to study the feasibility of urban beekeeping in the neighborhood at the urging of local activists.

3. LAUSD school board member Steve Zimmer presented a plan to neighbors and parents to lease land on the Walgrove Elementary campus to a charter school.

4. Congressional candidate Janice Hahn accused her opponent, Craig Huey, of being behind a racially charged YouTube video disparaging her record in a complaint to the Federal Election Commission.

5. Windward School celebrated an exceptional graduating class of 2011 at its commencement ceremonies.
