Start out the New Year right with art, food, shopping and mingling at First Fridays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Abbot Kinney Boulevard. A special appearance will be made by the Cirque du Soleil truck to celebrate 25 years in Los Angeles. Visitors to the truck will receive free Cirque swag and exclusive offers on tickets to their upcoming jaw-dropping shows.

Punk Not Dead! At least not at Danny's Deli in Venice, where they're hosting a punk rock karaoke night on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Relive those adolescent angst filled years, or continue them at Danny's.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.
