Looking for a way to while away the hours this weekend? Here's a list of some of the stuff going on in Venice, Dec. 30 - Jan 1.
Friday, Dec. 30
No need to go and waste energy or dollars on the night before the biggest night of the year, right? Go to a movie. Order a pizza. Rest up. Saturday is going to be huge.
Saturday, Dec. 31
Apart from strolling into the local watering hole where there's sure to be some good New Year's Eve action, many bars in Venice are having special shindigs.
Hotel Erwin's rooftop bar, High, might be one of the best places to watch the Marina del Rey fireworks display at midnight, and there's no cover charge.
James' Beach will host their Shangri-La-La celebration complete with two separate seatings and menus available: one for the early crowd and one for the late NYE crowd. We're talking wild Maine lobster and caviar, people. The $79 per person party will feature hats, leis, noise-makers, dancing, the annual volcano and a human sacrifice!
The Townhouse and Del Monte speakeasy will be hosting New Year's Eve old school style, featuring free flowing champagne at midnight, a costume contest and special cocktail menu with drinks from every decade. Downstairs, a raucous ragtime band, Dustbowl Revival, will be tearing up the stage.
Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012
Welcome in the New Year yoga style with Exhale Venice events. Renowned yoga teacher Annie Carpenter will lead a three-hour yoga workshop Jan. 1 focused on releasing the past and setting future intentions. The class is $40 and begins at 12:30 p.m.
Or join yoga teacher Saul David Raye, and guests for a ritualistic celebration of the New Year. Ancient traditions of puja and kirtan help to enter the New Year with good blessings and intentions. This workshop costs $30 and begins at 7 p.m.
Take a dip and raise money for City of Hope, a cancer research and treatment center, with the Registration costs $18 and will be a great way to start the year.
