What Song Reminds You of Venice?

The non-profit media group KCET is holding a Venice Mixtape Contest and wants to know what song reminds you of Venice.

What song reminds you of Venice?

"L.A. Woman" by The Doors since Jim Morrison lived here? "Behind the Groove" by Venice High School's Teena Marie? Something more along the lines of the Whole Foods Parking Lot video?

The non-profit media group KCET announced Monday that it wants to know for their Venice Mixtape Contest.  The contest is part of KCET Departures, an ongoing documentary series that takes an in-depth and interactive look at Los Angeles. KCET in 2009 launched "Departures: Venice" to explore the changes and growth in Venice since its founding by Abbot Kinney.

The mixtape contest asks the public to send the name of a song with a YouTube link or an original song for a chance to win a $30 gift certificate to Amoeba and publication on the final mixtape. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 20.

Details can be found on the contest page.

The "Departures: Venice" series has been broken into eight chapters, including "Oakwood," "Arts and Beats" and "Community."

KCET Departures previously ran a Highland Park Mixtape Contest and the grand prize winner was Alberto Vega for submitting "Angel Baby" by Rosie and the Originals.
