Area Hairstylist Marries Cinema to Venice for The Other Venice Film Festival

The Other Venice Film Festival all began with a vision when a Venetian combined his two passions.

Venetian Reuben De La Casas had a vision: combine two of his loves, Venice and cinema. So, he did, giving birth 10 years ago to The Other Venice Film Festival.

The film fest began Friday night and ends Sunday, concluding with a free public event called the Abbot Awards at 9 p.m. at Beyond Baroque. Tickets are available online only, in advance.

To celebrate its 10th year, "Ruby Tuesday," as De La Casas is known in the community, added a music score competition to the event, according to Argonaut News.

The popular film fest screens animation, shorts, music videos, documentaries and features that have not been shown before, not even online.
