Picturing Health at Venice Arts

A new exhibit "Picturing Health: Photographs by Teens Across Southern & Central California" is this week's gallery pick.

"Picturing Health", a selection of documentary photography by California teens, goes on exhibit this Saturday at .

The contributing adolescents, gathered from eight low-income communities, aim to portray the challenges and strengths of their neighborhoods. Various scenarios are captured in the 50 selected images, including teen pregnancy and poor living conditions, as well as positive influences from community heroes, new health clinics and food suppliers.

"The photos that these kids took are really very powerful. They offer the viewer a way in; a way to see and feel both the beauty and the challenge in their lives," lead photographer Giselle MacFarlene said.
