The Evolution of John Gronquist Opens at Gallery 1988

John Gronquist brings his latest sculptures to the Venice gallery starting this week.

Gallery 1988 Venice will host an opening reception Friday for "The Evolution Will Be Fabulous," a new solo event created by John Gronquist. The show will feature the sculptor's controversial artwork, an extension of his 2008 show, "The Revolution Will Be Fabulous."

The exhibit will display stuffed deer heads and custom-made designer weaponry. Though it may seem like an odd collaboration, the collection marries together some of the social and political absurdities of recent years with the freest creatures of nature.

The taxidermy heads of the commonly hunted animals are adorned with handguns for antlers, and a variety of the weapons incorporate fashion designer logos around different parts of the guns. The show has caught a lot of attention, both positive and negative, from his viewers and the media.

The reception will be Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 214 Pier Avenue. The show will continue on display only through Friday, Oct. 28.
