Gorillas Endorse in City Council Race

Gorillas (and Venice street artists) endorse Odysseus Bostick for Los Angeles City Council (District 11).

If there was any doubt that the landscape of politics was similar to that of the jungle, let’s put that doubt aside, because the gorillas have spoken with an opinion as clear as the writing on a wall. That’s right; Awesome House PV would like to introduce you to "The Gorillas" who have come out in very clear support of LA City Council Candidate District 11 (CD11) Odysseus Bostick.

The gorillas we speak of have lived a relatively peaceful existence as a street art mural commission by homeowner and Venice resident Gonzo Rock to beautify an often graffiti ridden, or “tagged”, wall on his portion of a small walking street: 20th Avenue. That was until recently, when the gorillas made a surprise endorsement.

With the permission of the original artist, renowned muralist and street artist Isabelle Alford-Lago (known for other gorilla paintings throughout Venice), Rock had the mural altered to show his (and apparently the gorilla’s) support for CD11 candidate Odysseus Bostick.

And what are these primates pontificating? "We're voting 4 Odysseus Bostick City Council."

Why did homeowner Rock want to give such a voice to his gorillas? Simply stated on Rock's Facebook account, "He's a guy with a really big heart and even bigger mind."

The gorillas are getting a lot of play around LA since the picture first appeared: from a story by Sharon McNary of KPCC;

Street art: Gorillas in the midst of L.A. City Council District 11 campaign

to a brief shout out by LA’s own Alice Walton of Maven’s Morning Coffee

Julianna Shapiro, Co-Manager of the Bostick Campaign stated, “The nicest surprise was getting statewide coverage for Odysseus’ gorillas, when Scott Lay of ‘The Nooner’ caught hold of the story,” adding, “There is always something very cool about the idea of street art, like finding a hidden message right under your nose!”

Never underestimating the power of guerilla marketing when you run a grassroots campaign, Co-Manager Brian Ross Adams declared, “"We have the gorilla vote locked down."

Full disclosure: Awesome House PV is managing Odysseus' campaign, but has no relationship (professional or personal) with the aforementioned gorillas.
