By City News Service

Updated 10:50 p.m: The Associated Press reports one of the victims of the crash has died.  Police are questioning a person of interest in the case.

Original: A hit-and-run driver plowed into a crowd today on the Venice Boardwalk, injuring a dozen people before fleeing the scene.

The collision was reported at 6:01 p.m. near 1 Dudley Ave., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"It was a solo vehicle versus multiple pedestrians on the Venice Boardwalk," Humphrey said.

Of the 12 people hurt, there were two with critical injuries, two with serious injuries and eight with minor injuries, Humphrey said.

They were all pedestrians.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot, said Officer Daniel Chun of the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division, but the vehicle was recovered.

An investigation remained underway, Chun said, and an unrelated saturation detail was taking place nearby between Abbot Kinney Boulevard and the Pacific Channel.
