Police Friday afternoon surrounded a Mar Vista apartment investigating a possible link to the Santa Monica shootings that left five dead including the shooter, but later said it proved to be a false alarm.
Yellow police tape surrounded the dwelling in the 3500 block of Centinela, causing a lot of attention shortly after 5 p.m. And by 5:20 p.m., at the corner of Centinela and Palms, people were trying to cross the yellow tape to get to their homes. But LAPD officers were making them wait.

Capt. Ed Pape told the surrounding media that the Los Angeles Police Department received a radio call regarding a possible suspect that may have been related to the Santa Monica shootings, but upon investigation it was discovered that there was in fact no suspect.
He added that LAPD received a second call that a person may have been down and wounded at the corner of Centinela Avenue and Palms Boulevard but that also turned out to be false.
Capt. Pape told Patch he could not confirm reports that a car seen outside the house that was burnt down in Santa Monica was registered to a person living in the apartment in Mar Vista. "We know nothing about that," he told Patch. "The Santa Monica Police Department is handling the [shootings] case and you'll have to speak with them. This is not an LAPD case."
