Witness Gives His Account of Venice Crash

Sean Peterson was at the Candlelight Café with friends when a car reportedly entered the boardwalk and "accelerated."

Written by Natalie Rivera

Sean Peterson, 25, told Patch he was at the Candlelight Café with friends Saturday when a blue Dodge drove onto the boardwalk and hit "a large number of vendors."

According to Peterson, the vehicle entered the boardwalk near its intersection with Dudley Avenue around 6 p.m., ran over metal pylons and kept going for another 200 feet.

“There were groups of people and vendors that he seemed to kick them out of the side,” said Peterson. “It seemed very intentional. He seemed to have accelerated. At this point, he must have been driving at 30 miles per hour.”

Peterson said there were a number of people hit by the car who appeared to be in critical condition, including a woman who had a head injury.

Peterson said the driver drove back onto "the main street" and may have crashed into something.
