Louie’s of Mar Vista is Officially Open

Louie’s of Mar Vista officially opened its doors to the public on the Fourth of July weekend and is offering up a slew of dishes … mostly of the meat variety.

In addition to menu items such as several different cheeseburgers (including the American Standard and the Pimento Cheeseburger), there’s also Braised English Short Ribs, crispy pork bones with Mac and Cheese and a variety of not-your-average egg rolls (when was the last time you had a Ruben egg roll?)

There’s also fries with three different dipping sauces, desserts that include bread pudding with salted caramel and a rotating menu.  Click here to see more of Louie’s menu items.

Louie’s is also storing beehives on its roof after discovering a hive during the renovation process. According to Louie’s website, “Because there is a chronic shortage of bees on this planet, we decided to move the hive to properly constructed hive boxes onto the roof of Louie’s just west of the skylight.  At dusk we often watch the collector bees returning with nectar and pollen from local plants, only to feed the hive and go out again to pollinate at sun-up.  These are Mar Vista’s bees.  They reside harmoniously with us on our roof for the small fee of a little honey for our kitchen.  Enjoy a “Bee Sting” from the bar!”

Located so close to the Sunday Mar Vista Farmers’ Market at its home on Grand View Avenue, Louie’s also offers up Farmers’ Market specials. This past Sunday the menu included:

$7 Captain Crunch crusted French Toast, House made whipped cream.

$8 Huevos Divorciados, Open faced eggs over easy on Corn Tortilla, topped with cheese, salsa and avocado mousse. Add Machacha $2

$9 Eggs on Toast with Virginia Ham and Gruyere Cheese.

$9 French Omelette with White Irish Cheddar, side of Arugula.

$11 French Omelette, Virginia Ham, Black Garlic Puree.
