Dana Wharf Sportfishing has been searching this past week for the giant Humboldt squid that we catch about once a year. In fact, started looking locally after a huge number of giant squid washed up on a beach in San Diego.
Yesterday, after the whale watching boat, Ocean Adventure, reported spotting giant squid on the surface, the Captain of the Sum Fun, Brian Wooley, took his charter party squidding!
"These squid are perfect size," said Woolley. "Great to eat and anyone can catch them!"
Earlier today on the 6 a.m. fishing trip, Captain Tom White, aboard the Dana Pride, called in to say that he had more than 100 of these squid already on the boat.
"They are biting," he said.
Dana Wharf will run squid trips every night at 5:30 p.m.; the boats return when they are done fishing. The price is $25.00, but you will need a squid jig and those range from $7-$15 per jig!
Local tackle stores carry them, as well as Dana Wharf Sportfishing. Also, remember these squid "INK" so be prepared.
It's actually been two years since we had a great run of squid trips, then it lasted about three weeks—so much fun—this is a family event, kids love it becasuse they look like prehistoric sea creatures.
