A Cool Weekend Ahead with Art and Literature

The options include attending a book signing or gallery exhibit and listening to some jazz.

Although the holiday weekend is over, and we now begin a long stretch of full workweeks until Labor Day (!), there is still plenty to do in Venice.

Weather.com is calling for highs in the 60s and clear skies this weekend. 

On Friday, don't forget to stock up on fruits and veggies at the in the morning. In the afternoon, there will be a Red Cross blood drive at the main lifeguard station between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to Yo! Venice. Do a good deed and give up a pint! (Eat something and drink lots of water first, though, because—speaking from experience—passing out after giving blood is not a lot of fun.)

In the evening, is holding an with the Catalina Island Conservancy and nature photographers Marc Muench, Jack Baldelli and Carlos de la Rosa. Celebrate Catalina's natural beauty with wine and hors d'oeuvres beginning at 6:30 p.m. The gallery asks for a $5 donation, which will go toward environmental conservation.

will also be hosting Friday night. That gallery's newest show, "" by Kevin Peterson, will have an opening reception from 6-10 p.m. DJs Busrider and Mr. Numberonederful will provide music, and there will be live painting by Max Neutra.

Down the street from G2, is hosting a book signing for 26 Ways to Feel Good Vibes at 7 p.m. This is author David Trager's first book signing for his "Reminders for the Deliberate Creator: 26 easy-to-follow methods which will guide you to a better feeling life." And who doesn't need a better feeling life?

Saturday, the will meet at 2 p.m. at the Extra Storage Space on Venice Boulevard. Just because school is out, doesn't mean there aren't .

On Sunday, check out the jazz at Hal's or across the city line in Marina del Rey at Brennan's, where No Static Trio will be playing. That show starts at 7 p.m., Hal's gets going at 8 p.m. Jazz is always a nice way to wind down the weekend, or start the week, depending on how you look at it.
