Get Out! It's the First Weekend of Fall

Venice is bustling this weekend with the Abbot Kinney Festival and Los Angeles Triathlon on Sunday. Plus, the Gondos kick off their home season.

Happy fall, Venice!

Friday marks the first day of fall, and, fittingly, the first home game for the . Kick-off is at 7 p.m. as the Gondos take on St. Francis. 

On Saturday, Venice Arts will be downtown from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the . This free event has workshops and showcases youth work in photography, film, music, dance and more. All are welcome.

The Learning Garden is holding a fundraiser, , Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5. For $10, attendees get a pesto-making demonstration, a tour of The Learning Garden, and a luncheon of Pesto Madness Pasta, made with the best basil grown in the garden and heirloom garlic.

Venice Boulevard will be 100 percent closed from the beach to downtown for the Los Angeles Triathlon. You will not be able to cross Venice Boulevard west of the 405 until about 11 a.m. (starting at 5 a.m.)

Abbot Kinney Boulevard will also be closed for the , which starts at 10 a.m. , art and general festiveness, along with a bigger and better Kids Quad this year. The festival is free, and proceeds for ticketed rides and events go to support local community projects.

On the other side of town, A Window Between Worlds will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with the opening of Pearls of Wisdom: End the Violence from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a talk about the healing nature of art, refreshments and a tour of the exhibit, in which survivors and concerned community members recast their personal memories of domestic pain into iridescent art objects – more than 800 unique spherical pearls and pearl discs. Tickets are $30.
