Helmets Hit the Skatepark, Volunteers Needed Around Town

Here are some news and notes for Monday, March 28.

Councilmember Bill Rosendahl paired up with local sport icon Jesse Martinez and local vendor S-One Helmets to supply two dozen protective helmets at the skatepark on Saturday morning to take part in Brain Injury Awareness Month. The CDC says U.S. emergency departments treat approximately 135,000 sports and recreation-related traumatic brain injuries, including concussions, among children 5-18 years of age. If your kid is a skatekid, invest in a helmet. All the cool kids are wearing them these days. 

The Venice Home and Garden Tour is coming up, and . In return for a half-day shift, you get a half-day pass on the tour, and a backstage look at some of Venice's most compelling architectural and horticulture. The event is May 1. Follow the link for more information.

Our Abbot Kinney Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is also looking for volunteers. The library's has outgrown its current space and needs to be moved. Head over to the library on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. and help move boxes or put DVDs in order. (Plus, you'll get a chance to check out the range of titles for your next movie night).
