Journalism Internship in Rosendahl's Office, Winograd Endorses Hahn and Memorial Day Weekend

Here are five things you should know for May 28.

1. If you're a college journalism student looking for an internship opportunity, Councilman Bill Rosendahl's office has an opening co-managing new media content for the 11th Council District. You'll shadow and spend time with the communications deputy, get practical experience with new media platforms and outreach techniques, receive mentoring for professional development and establish professional contacts.

Candidates must be able to work at least eight hours a week for an entire semester, be enrolled in college and receive credit for the internship, and be able to commute to downtown Los Angeles. Preference will be given to those who are from the district. If you're interested, attach your resume to an email and send a link featuring  your latest published work to Tony Arranaga, communications deputy for Rosendahl, at tony.arranaga@lacity.org

2. Former congressional candidate Marcy Winograd has endorsed Janice Hahn in the runoff election for the 36th Congressional District seat. Winograd ran against Hahn in last week's primary and came in fourth. In throwing her support behind fellow Democrat Hahn, Winograd said:  “Make no mistake, tea party darling Craig Huey [the Republican candidate facing Hahn in July's runoff] will seek to end Medicare as we know it, radically cut Social Security benefits and let Wall Street run rampant once again. It’s all hands on deck now, and we need to work to defeat the right-wing extremist agenda and elect Janice Hahn to Congress.”

4. Airport officials expect that nearly 811,000 people will travel in and out of LAX over this Memorial Day weekend. That figure is more than 5 percent higher than in the same period last year.
