June Brings First Friday and Good Weather

Forget June gloom—get out and enjoy Venice.

Los Angeles is infamous for "June gloom," but after a mild spring, June's first weekend is promising to be bright and warm, with highs nearing 70 and mostly clear skies.

Of course, Friday brings the monthly celebration along Abbot Kinney Boulevard. If you haven't had a chance to check out C.A.V.E. Gallery's Three Year Anniversary show, now's the time, as next week will bring a new exhibit. The gallery will be open late, until 10 p.m.

Also on Friday, and Saturday, will be the . Read on the annual running of the grunion, and then head down to the beach between 10:30 p.m. and midnight to join in the fun. This is something worth keeping the kiddies up for.

Friends of the Venice Library is holding its semiannual book sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop by and pick up some new summer reading material at a discounted price, all while supporting our local library. DVDs, CDs and more will be available.

The Rotary Club of Playa Venice Sunrise is hosting on Saturday night in support of the . Tickets are $45 at the door and include dinner. A beer and wine bar will be available, and there will be music and entertainment, as well as cash prizes.

Wondering what to do with friends in town on Sunday? Join up with the eXtremethings Adventure Club and take Membership dues and bike rental costs may apply. The trip starts at 10:30 a.m. and will be back around 3 p.m. 

In a more leisurely mood? Elvino Wine has tastings all weekend, including Sunday. For $10, you can check out three of its delicious offerings.
