Know It Now: Santa Anas Coming, Great Venice Toy Drive and Chaya Venison

News and notes from Venice Patch.

It's shaping up to be a pretty nice week weather-wise. The National Weather Service says we can expect a mostly sunny afternoon today with a high near 76 degrees and sunny days for the rest of the week with highs in the 60s. A strong Santa Ana wind condition is possible starting late Wednesday night and could last into Friday afternoon. A fire weather watch for later in the week is warning of sustained winds of more than 40 mph and peak wind gusts of over 60 mph.

Chaya Venice is offering up a "Venison Food Fair" until Dec. 11 and we've got a review of the special game animal menu right here.

The Venice Neighborhood Council is working on an inaugural holiday toy drive with the Mildred Cursh Foundation and the City of Los Angeles. Donors can bring an unwrapped, non-violent toy to various locations in Venice through Dec. 8 and the toys will be given away Dec. 10 at Oakwood Recreation Center to kids up to 16 who are there with a parent or guardian. Event organizers say the goal is to create an annual toy drive and giveaway so our young neighbors who need a toy can receive one from their own community. Check out the attached flier for details. Toys can be dropped off at Abbot's Habit, Fabric Planet and at the VNC meeting or at the VNC booth at the Farmers' Market.

The Venice Ale House is having a Movember Fundraiser on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The "Defeating Cancer wtih Facial Hair' event will feature $3 Longboard lager and Widmer Hefeweizen and $5 Cali-Belgique and Cottonwood Organic for all donors and mustache wearers.

State Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, who represents Venice, is holding a pubic hearing Wednesday on the health threat posed by pollution from the Santa Monica Airport. Details right here.
