Lot 27 Lights Up in Time for the Holidays.

New gift store opens in the heart of Downtown Mar Vista with an emphasis on local crafts.

Lot 27 celebrated its openning last weekend with a gala party and a display of holiday lights, illuminating Venice Boulevard. 

Sylvia Aroth a co-owner of the building and the store says that she and her partner Jackie Theis are excited to be part of the "up and coming community" in Mar Vista. Their store features locally made gift items, from jewelery to greeting cards to wood crafts. They also sell pajams and lingerie, candles and purses. Right now the mix is about 20 percent locally made, but Aroth says ultimately, she'd like to sell all local items.

"I think everything is coming back to the local level," Aroth says. She is happy to be in the neighborhood with the , , , , and the . "I'm thrilled to be part of that and I hope to sustain the momentum" in building a new neighborhood hub in Mar Vista.

The store has a focus on local activism as well. They are selling bags with a "99 %" patch on them, made by a group of Occupy LA supporters as a fundraiser to help Occupy LA pay some of the costs they have incurred through their demonstrations.

Asked for her favorite gift in stock right now, Aroth says, "we have some coasters and other similar products made in Lebanon that have beautiful geometric designs. I think they are just spectacular."

The store is located at 12515 Venice Blvd and is open from 11am - 7 pm every day.
