Marina del Rey Development Takes a Step Forward, More Cops to Hit the Beach

News and notes for Wednesday, April 27.

Wednesday is looking to be a beautiful day in Venice, with highs in the mid-70s and a moderate breeze. The high winds of the past couple days should have subsided.

Looking to do some spring cleaning? Get rid of your old electronics at on Saturday at the Mar Vista Recreation Center, and be sure they are recycled properly. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Marina del Rey is looking to scale up, not down. The Board of County Supervisors , despite protests from local residents and politicians. The five projects would add about 390 residential units to the marina area. The development is mostly located on the northern (Venice) side.

There is a at Westminster Avenue Elementary School, with Debra Bowen, Janice Hahn, Marcy Winograd, Mike Gin, Kit Bobko, and all the other potential representatives of the 36th Congressional District. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Vote-by-mail has already begun, so educate yourself on the candidates!

Senior Lead Officer Peggy Thusing for the LAPD's Venice Beach detail announced at the Venice Neighborhood Committee meeting Tuesday night that additional officers will be assigned to the beat beginning in three weeks. The extra forces are a reaction to the spate of violence on the beach in the past few weeks, including a shooting and stabbing.
