New Bus Benches, Beauties or Beasts?

Tell us what you think about the benches in Mar Vista.

Martin Outdoor Advertising began installing new bus benches in Mar Vista this week as part of its contract to replace more than 6,000 benches citywide. The company won the contract to replace the old concrete benches and street garbage cans last August in a city council vote marred by allegations that the previous contract holder was influencing a council member.

The new benches are green with a large flat back for advertising. The company has agreed to pay the city  $2.6 million over 10 years in exchange for installing and maintaining the benches and the right to sell the advertising space on them.

Steve Wallace, South Mar Vista Neighborhood Association President is not a fan of the new seats. Wallace says of the benches, “They are ugly. They are a horrendous color.
They do not fit the character of Mar Vista.”

He thinks residents should call their city council members to complain about the esthetics of the benches.

Take our poll and tell us what you think of the new bench design.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.
