Organization Provides Help for the Homeless

While many Venice residents will be savoring time off this holiday weekend, those who assist the homeless in the area say homelessness never has a holiday. However, the organization, People Assisting the Homeless, or P.A.T.H., is seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

"I think it’s improving," said P.A.T.H. CEO Joel Roberts. "We’re helping people get off the streets."

Roberts said 136 out of 189 homeless found on the streets through March have left the streets. More than 65 have been placed in permanent housing and more than 20 are in transitional housing programs, according to Roberts. They are currently working on housing 15 people.

"We place them wherever we can place them,” Roberts said.

P.A.T.H., which has been in existence for nearly two years,

"It’s a great program," Roberts said. "Councilman Rosendahl has really taken the lead on making this a priority, and we feel it’s worked."

P.A.T.H. also runs a homeless hotline, (424)262-6333, which Venice residents can call to leave a message 24 hours a day, seven days a week in order to find assistance for anyone who is homeless.
