Partially Fallen Tree Remains Outside Mar Vista Library

An operator for the city says emergency service crews have taken steps by placing tape and barriers around the tree, but could not guarantee emergency workers would return to remove the potentially hazardous hanging branches before Monday.

A tree outside the Mar Vista library partially collapsed sometime early Saturday morning. Luckily no one was injured, but the site could still be a potential accident waiting to happen.

Letter to the Editor:

24 hours after reporting a 50 foot high tree at the entrance of the crashing down causing a major safety hazard, it still remains a danger to the residents of Mar Vista.

Various agencies of the City were called many times and still the tree is a danger with a huge portion of the fallen tree resting on the traffic signal stopping it from crashing down on cars and pedestrians below

What does it take to move this City to remove a life threatening hazard like this?

On Sunday at 11 a.m, Mar Vista Patch contacted the city to find out what was going on. The 3-1-1 operator told Patch that the city's emergency crews had come out and taken care of the situation by placing the barriers and yellow tape around the tree.

When told that the tape and barriers would not necessarily prevent the hanging tree branch from collapsing and falling on pedestrians or cars, the operator explained that there was nobody to speak with on the weekends, as the departments were all closed, and to call back on Monday.

However, she did promise to pass on the information to the emergency crews that do in fact work in the field on weekends.

"I don't know if they'll do anything else though before Monday, seeing as they have already placed the tape and barriers around the tree," she said.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available and will follow up with the city on Monday. Let us know if you see the emergency crews return.
