Strange X’s in the Sky, High Surf Warning and Roadmap to Housing Presentation

Wondering what that strange circle with an x in the sky was on Memorial Day?

1. The odd-looking skywriting sign seen in Mar Vista and beyond Monday was part of a military flyover in honor of Memorial Day that took place at Santa Monica’s Woodlawn Cemetery. Thanks to Maria—aka Westside Mama—for the photograph. We've also heard it could have been a promotional device for the upcoming X-Men movie. If you receive confirmation, let us know!

2. Two cars were stolen in Mar Vista over the Memorial Day weekend. On May 28, a car was stolen at approximately 5 p.m. from South Venice Boulevard near the 405 freeway entrance. On May 29, a car was stolen at approximately 5 p.m. from 12500 Venice Blvd.

3. The National Weather Service is forecasting sunny weather today with a high near 69 degrees, with patchy fog after 11 p.m. If you plan on heading to the beach, note that there is a high surf advisory between 9 a.m. today and 9 a.m. Thursday. There’s also a high risk of rip currents throughout the day and into the night at all area beaches.

4. The Skirball off-ramp from the 405 will be closed today from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and again from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. due to the Skirball bridge reconstruction project. Starting today through Saturday, one southbound lane of Pacific Coast Highway from Temescal Canyon Road to Entrada Drive in Pacific Palisades will be closed from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and both southbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. According to the city, the closures are due to the $10 million Coastal Interceptor Relief Sewer project.

5.  A presentation on the proposed Roadmap to Housing program will take place tonight at the Penmar Park Gym at 7:30.
