Temporary Ferris Wheel Proposed for Venice Beach

UK-based Great City Attractions is scheduled to present a proposal for a temporary observation wheel at Windward Plaza on Venice Beach.

The Los Angeles City Department of Recreation and Parks will hold a public meeting Monday over a temporary Ferris wheel proposed for Windward Plaza on Venice Beach.

The "Great Observation Wheel" can sit atop an existing concrete slab and can be installed in about 10 days and removed within a week. Nigel Ward, of United Kingdom-based Great City Attractions, will make a presenation on the proposed wheel at the meeting.

Great City Attractions is the world's leading operator of observation wheels with rides ranging from 130-feet to 540-feet. The electric observation wheels provide panoramic, 360-degree views day and night.

The meeting will be held Monday, March 5, at the Westminster Senior Citizen Facility, 1234 Pacific Ave. in Venice. It is scheduled to run from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

What is the purpose? As much it sounds like fun its just going to bring more traffic to our little neighborhood. How long will this remain? We can't control what we have now. As great a restoration project of the pier sounds, and in fact I would love to work on the project, we don't need it! Our streets are congested, we are taking away lanes for bikes and traffic is getting worse every year. You want a Ferris wheel go to Santa Monica, one of, if not the first solar powered, LED Ferris wheel in the world. What? We bringing in carnivals now?

The reason why we have a "Venice Beach" is because of fun loving attractions, just like this Ferris Wheel.

Hey D.M. Obviously you don't live in Venice.

It would be great.... Especially if some of the funds go towards CLEANING UP VENICE. It's ridiculous that our boardwalk and Windward Ave etc isn't steam cleaned and maintained like a real tourist attraction.

Where are the funds going? Where are all of these people going to park? Traffic already backs up past Lincoln in the summer. More traffic, more crime, more trash more noise. For what? So some European company can profit? No Thanks!
