Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl is asking constituents to sign a petition opposing newly drawn City Council boundaries that remove parts of Playa Vista and Westchester from his 11th Council District.

The Los Angeles City Redistricting Commission on Wednesday released draft maps of newly redrawn City Council boundaries as part of a redistricting process that drastically altered some districts and drew protests from council members.

The district staff chose Ocean Charter over Green Dot's Animo Venice Middle School for the right to lease land and build at Walgrove Elementary. The district’s facilities division recommendation will go to the school board for a vote.

Solutions to reducing pollution from Santa Monica Airport may be as elusive as the mysterious ultrafine particles that are part of the problem.

Neighbors of Santa Monica Airport (SMO) got a refresher course Monday night in how lead, black carbon and ultrafine particle emissions from planes affect the air they breathe.

At an Airport Commission environmental workshop, the take-away lesson, as with other airport issues, is that relief from the leaded fuel emissions spewed by piston-powered planes, and the carbon and ultrafine particles from jet engines, will not arrive anytime soon.

The school’s booster club raises money at big and small events throughout the year. Now they are seeking business sponsorships for their “School of Fish Tile Wall.” Booster club co-presidents, Claudine Czerny and Benita Spector explained how their group manages to support an array of programs at the school despite district funding cuts.

SB661, which would make it a misdemeanor to demonstrate at a funeral unless protesters were 500 feet away and on public property, passed the state Senate unanimously. It is similar to a bill vetoed last year by Gov. Jerry Brown.
