The annual reading of Moby Dick will take place this weekend at the Venice Beach breakwater.

The Venice Oceanarium, which describes itself as a “museum without walls” and holds frequent events in Venice devoted to informing people on ocean life, has held the Moby Dick event since 1995. Herman Melville’s epic book is read continuously by volunteers from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone who wishes to read or just listen is welcome to stop by the breakwater, out from Windward Avenue.

The reading takes places in November in conjunction with the California gray whale migration from Baja California to Alaska.

Let me clarify: All I tried to do was re-link to the video that was dumped when Patch revised itsRead More format. The Festival of the Chariots won't be coming to Venice for months.

One year, long ago, Alice Coltrane performed. Anyone know the year? Definitely in the 70's.

Thank you, David, for your lucid and edifying dissertation on Passover. You just about said itRead More all...I would only add that if people get a chance during the holiday to view the movie version of Fiddler On The Roof they will get a truly inspiring feeling for what it meant - and means - to be Jewish.
