It's the Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase Tour Today

Today (April 20) is the 5th Annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase. Run, walk, bike, scoot to this annual giant eco-friendly festival from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Celebrate Earth Day and Mar Vista with the Mar Vista Community Council's 5th annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase.

It's a day to get out, stretch your legs and see some of the amazing gardens that highlight everything from edible and drough-resistant gardens to California native gardens  and urban gardens.

The showcase runs today - April 20  - from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Simply head to 3635 Grand View Boulevard to pick up your walking map, head to the gardens and chat with homeowners and experts.

Guest environmental organizations on the tour include HoneyLove.org, Los Angeles County Master Gardeners,The Seed Library of Los Angeles, and  Grow Native Nursery. Landscape designers will be at many gardens to answer questions and share information.

Among the highlights is the home at 13204 Rose Ave. where the owners converted their front yard into a fruit and vegetable garden by builidng in-ground, raised beds.

Another is at 3967 Coolidge Ave. where volunteers from the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation completed a demonstration rain garden just in time for the 2012 Showcase. Come and learn how they did it.
