Metro Rail and Bus lines are offering free rides to Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve travelers.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is offering free rides on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, according to a post on City Council member Mike Bonin's Facebook page.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and again on Tuesday, Dec. 31, Metro Rail and Bus lines will not charge riders fares. The free rides will continue until 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, according to the Metro website.

People boarding transit after 2 a.m. on Christmas Day and New Year's Day will need to pay the fare using a TAP card.
