Venice Sign Lighting Friday Night

The Venice Sign will turn on the holiday spirit in Venice during a public event that includes music, art, food, fun and photos with Santa.

The second annual Venice Sign Holiday Lighting and Windward Holiday Crawl takes place Friday, Dec. 6 at the Venice Sign on Windward Avenue.

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. on Windward Avenue east of Pacific Avenue, with a pre-lighting ceremony at 7:45 p.m. and the actual lighting at 8 p.m. Council member Mike Bonin and a special celebrity guest will pull the switch, turning the Venice Sign into red and green for the holidays, according to the Venice Chamber of Commerce.

Actor Robert Downey Jr. helped light the sign at last year's inaugural event.

New unwrapped toys for the Muslce Beach toy Drive, held in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Division and Pacific Area Boosters, can be taken to participating merchant locations. Toy donors will receive a wrist-band, good for discounts throughout the night.

The event will offer photos with Santa, holiday shopping, drink and food specials, art and music, according to the Venice Sign's Facebook page.

This year's presenting sponsors include the Venice Neighborhood Council, Venice Symphony Orchestra, Hotel Erwin and Townhouse.

The Venice Sign, an attraction all by itself, brings thousands of tourists to Venice.
